It's been quite some time since I last blogged my thoughts...books,exams,viva, practicals..whew what a year!
But something happened yesterday which made me turn back to blogging once more. Was driving the car with my husband seated beside me and near Guindy Industrial Estate, the traffic was moving at snail's pace. we had no choice but to follow the car right in front of us...
Suddenly, out of the blue, we hear or rather I hear ( 'cos my hubby's busy listening to the cricket commentary of India Vs England match) a loud honking and my rear-view mirror gets a random flash of headlights. The driver behind me is desperate. I understand that. But with the new Metro Rail project work going on in full swing, there was hardly any space for any of us to move and make way for the desperate driver.
But the driver was adamant. He kept honking non-stop( the kind of irritating noises taxi drivers make) and kept flashing his head-lights over and over again forcing me to almost hit the car next to me..
At last he found some space next to our car and that's when I noticed. His number plate was in dirty yellow. He was a bloody taxi driver. It wasn't the usual cars that these hired guyz use so I had no clue when I looked into the rear-view mirror. He had no passengers sitting inside. He had no wounded pedestrian to be taken to the hospital immediately. He was totally peaceful and calm and kept repeating the ritual again and started to taunt the driver now in front of hime.
I was enraged beyond words. All the bad words that I had learnt in all the languages I knew came out of my mouth involuntarily. My hubby was flabbergasted.
I waited for sometime, let that asshole take the line before me and I repeated what he had just did to me.But this time 10x more. Kept honking incessantly and flashing the lights till 'he' got annoyed and looked out to see who it was. And when he noticed that I was a woman he was all the more enraged!! *********** When the lights went green, I didnt let him overtake me, gave him a hard time and sped down Kathipara junction..
I don't know what made me so mad.One wrong move and it would have been a disaster. What have these ******** taxi drivers got that we normal human beings don't posess?? Indecency. Every day and Every night, my long drives to the college and back are made lousy thanx to these ****** taxi drivers. Hate their bunch.Their all the same. No regard for anybody. Its like they own the roads.Kings of the roads. **************
I'm not a traffic policeman.I have no authority to do whatsoever to teach them a lesson. But I just showed one ********* a******** of a taxi driver, what we, normal drivers are capable of when we opt to show some indecency.
Now, did I do something wrong??? :D
sollatthan ninaikkiren...
As the title suggests in Tamil, the blog features all I had wanted to tell out loud in front of people but had to be silent. All the pent up emotions. All the words which had once been impossible for me to be voiced out...

If not Paradise, atleast not as bad as Hell!!
Hmmmm..... I'm at a loss for words. Enquired about the slides the very next day. It went like this... I bought a set of slides, picked ten from the set, washed them again (though they were fresh from the manufacturer) with clean water, wiped them clean with tissue, wrapped them with a clean tissue paper and confronted the person-in-charge with the slides. The person was shocked and even found it funny that I had gone through such pain when they were actually supplying fresh slides to the technicians everyday!!! It seems the technicians have to approach the contact the concerned person when they need new slides, but either they were too lazy or too ignorant that they instead opt to wash the older slides and reuse them which on the contrary is a much tougher alternative. I was confused. I didnt know who to believe. Each side had a story to tell and what a convincing story that too! When I told the concerned person about what story the technicians had to say, there was utter surprise and it seems the person had only recently known from me that such a thing was happening.. whatever. The moral of the story is: Shut up and do your work. Don't offer help or advice unless asked for it. Never go out of your way and be a good Samaritan. You've got a hell lot of troubles in your own life without having to worry about others'.

Hospitals - God's heaven or Satan's hell?!!
Feels great to be a doctor once you are committed to the cause. Feels even greater when you are able to save a life. Feels like God when you are able to do it again and again....
But a sight I witnessed today made feel more like Satan than anything else.
I've worked in this charity hospital for quite sometime now and its heartwarming to see the services being offered here despite the lack of funds. I do understand that in a developing nation like ours with most people still struggling for a livelihood, its very difficult to deliver all the fancy services of a corporate hospital to the cobbler munusamy or the mason ramasamy. But still..
The laboratory here has well trained experienced staff and automated instruments that give accurate results within minutes. There are a few steps though, which require human evaluation. one of them is what we call a peripheral smear..a drop of the patient's blood is dragged across a slide using another slide to make a thin smear and after drying and staining it, the doctor or the technician will be able to tell what's wrong with the cells found in the blood.
Though its a tedious task, its one of the mainstay of any laboratory's work. And the first and foremost requirement here is a nice clean glass slide.that is all. Is that too difficult a task??
What's being done in my hospital is normal except that the slides are REUSED. yup, you read it right. REUSED. And how?? The old slides are washed off the blood and stain using detergent ( which of course, our ayyammas do it sooo sincerely that as a proof of their hardwork, there's always some detergent sticking onto the slide forming visible white patches ) and dried in the sunlight and used the next day. Most of the slides retain the bluish purple tint of the stain and if they aren't properly washed, the results of the following day's patient are going to be affected...
No one seems to understand the importance of making a proper smear or the seriousness of the situation. The technicians had brought this to the notice of the authorities but no new slides were provided. They cost about Rs.50 for a box of 100 slides. Probably cutting down this cost would bring a lot of profit to the management but it would also bring back the patients with undue anxiety who would have got erroneous results.
I've decided to buy these slides for the lab for the benefit for the patients. Maybe as long as I'm posted here. But after that???
